How to Keep Your Medical Data Safe During a Hurricane

Medical Data Safe During a Hurricane

Call4Health Offers State of the Art Technology to Protect Our Healthcare Clients from Disasters

At Call 4 Health, we take our healthcare industry client’s data security very seriously. Now that hurricane season is here, many healthcare practices are concerned about unexpected outages that can lead to lost data. Not at Call 4 Health. Our customers know we have the latest in best of breed hardware and software to ensure their critical data is safe.

At Call 4 Health, we have created a disaster preparedness plan to be fully prepared for the unexpected. Our plan utilizes secure servers, apps and databases to ensure our client’s data stays safe in the event of an emergency. Because we are a medical answering service call center and clinic nurse triage, we understand the importance of protecting our patients’ confidential information to comply with HIPAA regulations.

Security in the Digital Age

Now that your medical practice has patient information saved electronically, the risk of attacks increases. You and your clients may be concerned about breaches, malware, viruses, and other activities people employ to commit medical fraud.

When your medical practice utilizes our medical call center technology and telephone answering services, you entrust us with valuable information, and we take this role seriously. Our team understands the severity of the situation and has put in place several measures to protect our client’s information.

Technology for Your Security

Our security measures ensure that your information will be protected against hackers and cyber-attacks. We rely on state-of-the-art technology built to survive natural disasters, power outages, and other unexpected events. Our technology will back up and recover all your data, a process that is completely transparent to you and your clients. Furthermore, database backups are stored indefinitely and are performed every hour to ensure data integrity.

Once the emergency is over, the calls will be rerouted back to the original location. Call 4 Health has been approved and authorized by DHS (Department of Homeland Security) to maintain TSP (Telecommunications Service Priority).

Other technology we use to secure information includes:

  • A cluster of firewalls with IPS and IDS (Intrusion prevention/detection systems) to restrict any unauthorized access.
  • Network-attached devices include the latest security patches and updates controlled by NinjaRMM for Windows/Linux and by Solarwinds Orion Network Configuration Manager for core network devices.
  • Outgoing and incoming emails are checked by email and file antivirus. Only required ports are open on firewall and externally facing systems.

Call 4 Health has four campuses, with one each in Columbia, South Carolina, Delray Beach, Florida, Linthicum Heights, Maryland, and Springhill, Tennessee. We have multiple data centers for our locations, and each center is housed with security systems to protect it against malicious activity from external traffic.

Staff Emergency Preparedness

We understand that a lack of staff training can lead to data risks, so we make sure our staff is correctly trained in data security practices. Additionally, they are regularly reviewed to ensure they are following our protocols. To avoid phishing scams, we have several procedures in place to prevent the opening of any malicious email content (i.e., cryptolockers, Trojans, rootkits). We also have strict password protocols, using strong passwords that are updated every three months and the same password is never used on multiple applications.

When it comes to our server rooms, we make certain they are continuously secure to protect data. Only a select group of staff members have access to the server rooms, and entrance is only granted by using an individual assigned personal code. Security is further reinforced with the use of five surveillance cameras: two just outside the door and three within each server room.

Disaster Recovery Plan

We believe that all businesses should hope for the best but prepare for the worst. That is exactly what we do. We have a disaster recovery plan that gets tested monthly and some technology sectors require testing on a weekly basis. Our plan relies heavily on state-of-the-art technology, such as our systems and notifications that allow us to main our 99.9% uptime. For example, if a piece of technology fails, the backup automatically kicks in and sends an email and text notification to our Director of IT, and the IT on-call team that is available 24/7. Solarwinds Orion monitoring software is used to poll all network devices and generate either emails, SMS, or automated voice calls depending on the urgency and its impact.

Your Data is Always Protected

In light of hurricane season, we understand your concerns regarding data protection. The team at Call 4 Health is fully prepared with proper data protection solutions to give you much-needed peace of mind. We are available 24/7 should you need to contact us in case of an emergency.
